Catholic University of America

The Catholic University of America, located in Washington, DC, was established by the American bishops as a graduate and research center for the study of "all branches of literature and science, both sacred and profane." In 1887 Pope Leo XIII approved the plan to found CUA, the only national Catholic center of learning in the United States with a papal charter. The university began offering undergraduate programs in 1904.
